My Story - KKH Candles
I’ve always dreamed of having my own business, and along the way, I've dabbled in several different ventures, but never took them to that next level while working full time elsewhere. It wasn’t until I realized what I wanted to create, and the reason why that I launched "this" business. I’ve always had a love for candles. Why? Who knows? But I have to say, I was a more of a "buy them but never burn them" type of gal. To me they were more of a fill a shelf type of thing (especially if the label was really cute!) than to be used. But there was this one really hard shift, and I when I got home, I actually struck a match and lit a candle (while I was lighting it, I know I was subconsciously talking to God).
For over 22 years, I worked as an ER/trauma nurse. Working in the ER means walking out with more than just exhaustion—you carry the echoes of sirens, the faces of families, and the weight of moments you couldn’t fix. Why so long? I don't know? I think there is something in the DNA of a trauma/ER nurse that just makes you stay.
As a single mom at the time, when the that heaviness would linger after I got home (no matter what shift), and when the time was right, I would take a deep breath, make something to drink, light a candle, cry at times, decompress and reflect. That simple ritual would bring me what peace I could find. It didn't happen every day; sometimes weeks or months would go by. I had no idea, on "that day," that is burned into my brain; when I finally lit "that first, poor, sacrificial candle" and let it burn, it would become my ritual.
And so now after I told you how this LLC candle business came to be...
